At least five dead as boat capsizes in Tangail
TANGAIL, July 31, 2020 (BSS) – At least five people reportedly
feared dead as a boat sank in a ‘beel’ in Gilbari Bazar area of Basail
upazila under Tangail district today.
The victims were boatman Taijuddin, 50, Jamela Begum, 60, wife of
Minju Mia, her son Hamidur Rahman Rana, 35, daughter-in-law of Ata
Mia, 32, and Shah Alam, 25.
Shah Alam, son of Haider Ali, hailed from Koiamadu village of
Sakhipur upazila, while other victims were from Gilbari area of
Basail.
Local Union Parishad member Rubel Mia told BSS that the boat was
coming to Gilbari area from Dariapur.
On the way in a ‘beel’ it was stuck by an electric wire and sank.
Local people recovered five bodies and few others went missing.
Shafiqul Islam at the Basail Fire Service Station said they were
conducting drive to rescue the missing people.
