Govt to set up tourism info-centre in all divisions: Mahbub

DHAKA, July 29, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for civil aviation and tourism M Mahbub Ali today said the government will setup tourism info-centre in each division to provide all relevant information regarding tourist attractions, tour guides, transportation and accommodations to the tourists.

He also instructed the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) to form units at different zones to monitor management activities of tourist destinations and attractions at those respective areas.

The state minister was speaking at a virtual workshop with different local tourism stakeholders of Lakhsmipur district.

The BTB organized the workshop as part of its ongoing initiative to hold such event for each of 64 districts involving local stakeholders for ensuring participation of all in formulation of ‘Tourism Master Plan’.

During the workshop, the state minister said that the BTB would take initiative to develop riverine tourism in Lakhsmipur district utilizing the river and cannel web of the district.

He also urged the district administration to develop tourism facilities at islands and islets of the district keeping the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the planning to attract more tourists at the region.

He also praised the district administration to turn the Lakshmipur Dalal Bazar ‘Jamindar Bari (feudal lord palace)’ into a tourist attraction after renovating it with support of the BTB.

He also urged the district administration to be vigilant to protect historic and archaeological sites from the land grabbers.

BTB’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jabed Ahmed also spoke at the workshop, chaired by Lakhshmipur deputy district commissioner Anjan Chandra Pal.
