Khalid urges people not to make journey without urgency

DHAKA, July 29, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid
Mahmud Chowdhury today reiterated his call urging the people not to
make journey during Eid-ul-Azha without any urgency to check the
spread of the deadly coronavirus.

“You should stay wherever you are now. You can communicate with
dear and near ones through virtual media during the Eid-ul-Azha,” he
told the annual performance agreement (APA) signing ceremony at the
ministry conference room.

The government, he said, is very much sincere to make the journey on
waterways safe and smooth during the Covid-19 crisis and flood
situation.

To make follow the health guidelines strictly by the passengers,
disinfection tunnels have been set up at Sadarghat launch terminal
with temperature checking facilities, he said, adding that marking
for social distancing has been put at the decks of the lunches and
passengers are requested to follow the marks.

The Shipping Ministry has inked the APA for 2020-21 fiscal with its
11 subordinate offices and organizations.

Shipping Secretary Mohammed Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury and chiefs of the
offices and organizations in Dhaka under the ministry signed it
physically on behalf of respective institutions. Heads of the offices
and organizations outside of the capital joined the signing ceremony
virtually.

The APA’s achievements in the previous fiscals were 82.02 percent in
2015-16; 82.15pc in 2016-17 fiscal, 80.63pc in 2017-18 and 81.21 pc in
2018-19 fiscal.
