Bidyanondo, GP employees join hands to spread Eid happiness

DHAKA, July 29, 2020 (BSS) – The outbreak of coronavirus pandemic
has tapered the happiness around the nation and led people to
celebrate a muted Eid-ul-Fitr two and an half months back.

While the crisis is still ongoing, it has somehow evolved into the
‘new normal.’

To continue supporting and standing beside the people in need,
Grameenphone employees collaborate with Bidyanondo Foundation to
provide special Eid meals to more than 31,000 underprivileged
populations on the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest
religious festival of the Muslims.

The pandemic has severely impacted the low-income group and has led
them to face hardships to arrange adequate food and nutritious
supplies, said a press release.

The initiative by both Grameenphone and Bidyanondo Foundation,
known as ‘Grameenphone Eid er Khushi’, can bring joyous moments to
these people’s lives during the Eid.

Grameenphone employees have contributed to arranging special Eid
meals for more than 31,000 people from their festival bonus to spread
Eid’s joy with Bangladesh’s most impacted community.

The Eid fest (meal) to more than 31,000 people will be arranged in
Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Kurigram, Narayanganj, Rangpur, Cox’s
Bazar, and Khagrachhari. Bidyanondo will organize the entire fest. The
fest will start from Eid day and expected to continue till August 3.

Grameenphone and Bidyanondo Foundation signed a MoU in this regard
on July 28.

Syed Tanvir Husain, Chief Human Resources Officer, Grameenphone,
Kishor Das, Founder Chairman of Bidyanondo Foundation along with
Fazlul Haque, Acting President of Grameenphone Employees Union (GPEU),
Khairul Basher, Head of Communications, Hafizur Rahman Khan, Lead
Specialist of Sustainability of Grameenphone were present at a virtual
ceremony of the signing.

On this occasion, founding chairman of the Bidyanondo Foundation
Kishor Das said the Covid-19 has severely affected most of the
population through a decline in income, loss of jobs, closing of shops
and business activities, and even a complete halt of income.

Most of the poor people are facing hardships to arrange adequate
food supply, he said, adding that numerous organizations and the
government have been continuously trying their best to support these
distress populations.

“Grameenphone has come forward with various activities to support
the poor. We are extremely pleased to be working with them on this
initiative of helping people and providing some happiness to them
during such a crisis,” Kishore said.

Syed Tanvir Husain, Chief Human Resources Officer, Grameenphone,
said Eid teaches people to sacrifice and spread joy with people around
us.

“I am happy that together as a family, we have come forward to
spread Eid happiness with distressed people in these challenging
times,” he said.

He extended thanks to the philanthropic partner Bidyanondo
Foundation for providing special Eid meals and bringing joyous moments
for the vulnerable lives during Eid.

Besides this, Grameenphone has taken several other initiatives to
support the under-served population from the beginning of Covid-19 in
Bangladesh.

The mobile operator company’s employees donated BDT 4,620,856 to
Biddanondo Foundation to arrange Eid fest. The mobile operator will
continue to stand and support the people of Bangladesh.
