Razzaque urges youths to make marks in agricultural

DHAKA, July 26, 2020 (BSS) – With agriculture sector playing an
important role in economic growth, the educated youths should come
forward in making their marks in the country’s agricultural arena
including production and procession works with newer ideas and
innovations to enhance its contribution to the national economy, said
Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque.

He said country’s educated but unemployed youths should be
encouraged to work in agricultural sector and their innovative ideas
could add a new dimension to the sector to strengthen it further
making an advanced and more profitable one.

He was addressing a webinar as the chief guest on “young
entrepreneurs in strengthening rural agricultural economy” arranged by
Northern University today.

Abdur Razzaque said the agriculture sector is wittiness mounting
scarcity of workers but the educated youths have apathy in joining
works in the arena.

“It is very natural that educated youths will not be interested in
traditional ways of agricultural works and will not go in fields with
plough for farming. But they could be intestate in modern technology
based agricultural production and processing,” he said.

Razzaque said the government has put much emphasis on modernization
and mechanization of agricultural production to boost up its
contribution to the national economy as a project for Taka 3,020 crore
has been taken to agricultural mechanization.

Under the project around 52,000 modern agricultural equipment and
machines will be provided to farmers to enlarge production and
processing of agricultural goods, he added.

The minister said it will encourage the youths to work in
agricultural arena not only in conventional crops rather in production
of unconventional harvests like coffee, dragon fruits, cashew nuts and
black peppers.

Northern University Vice-Chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain chaired the
webinar while the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Md Humayun
Kabir presented the keynote paper.

Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Chairman Dr. Shaikh
Mohammad Bokhtiar, media personality and agriculture development
activist Shykh Seraj and Northern University Board of Trustees
