DHAKA, August 28, 2017 (BSS) – The entire country would be brought under stringent security measures, including in the capital city, with deployment of RAB and police for peaceful and smooth celebration of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.

“We have taken all possible measures to ensure security for peaceful celebration of the Eid. The law enforcement agencies will be alert to avert any sort of criminal activities before and after the Eid festival across the country,” Inspector General (IGP) of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque told BSS here today.

He said the law enforcement agencies have been asked for an intensified countrywide security vigil in the capital and elsewhere, adding, “Police in uniform and plainclothes alongside the elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) would keep a vigil on bus terminals, ferry ghats and train stations and shopping malls to deal with extortionists, pickpockets, cheats and muggers.”

The IGP said the law enforcement agencies were also asked to ensure smooth movement of vehicles on highways, waterways and train routes. The entire capital would be brought under the surveillance of the closed circuit televisions (CCTV) cameras during the Eid, he added.

“I will visit two cattle markets in the city’s Gabtoli and Basila tomorrow to oversee the security measures at 3:30 pm” AKM Shahidul Hoque said. The IGP will also visit security check posts and oversee other activities of the law enforcement agencies in Gabtoli area as Eid holiday makers rushed to Gabtoli bus terminal.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) would deploy additional forces in the capital during the Eid vacation to avoid untoward incident and necessary watch towers, CCTV cameras and check posts would be set up at various places to check extortion, mugging and smuggling of raw hide.

Shahidul Hoque said highway police, naval police, RAB and Ansar will increase their patrolling during the Eid to stop all sorts of criminal activities and the government is committed to ensuring safe journey of the homebound people during the second biggest festival of Muslims.

He said members of the police have been asked to take special security measures at the country’s largest Eidgah of Sholakia in Kishoreganj and Dinajpur for maintaining law and order.

For a smooth and jubilant Eid celebration, RAB, police and different intelligence agencies, both in uniform and plain clothes, are active at different strategic points in the cities, the IGP said.

He said police force has proved their efficiency by combating terrorism and militancy activities in the country through integrated efforts and professionalism.

They have made significant role in conducting anti-militancy campaign, as police force conducted 23 operations against militants after the Holey Artisan attack.
