DHAKA, Aug 28, 2017 (BSS) – Bangladesh will sign the paperless trade agreement tomorrow to become the partner of the initiative.
Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, who left here today for Thailand’s capital of Bangkok, will sign the agreement at UNESCAP headquarters, said a ministry release.
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in 72th session adopted the resolution on “Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Cross-Border Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific”. The Cabinet on August 7 took decision for Bangladesh’s partnership with the movement.
Besides, the commerce minister would also attend a “High Level Dialogue on Regional Trade through Effective Participation in the Digital Economy” by the invitation of UNESCAP.
On August 30, the minister will travel to Sri Lanka where he has a schedule to exchange views with the country’s commerce and industry minister regarding trade, investment and signing of FTA.
Later, he will join “Second Indian Ocean Conference-2017” which is scheduled to be held on August 31 to September 2 in Colombo with the participation of the representatives from 29 countries.
The commerce minister will deliver his speech in the minister’s panel of the conference on September 1. The theme of the conference is Peace, Progress and Prosperity.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Tofail Ahmed will meet with the ministers and policymakers of the Oceanian countries to discuss about trade and investment.
The commerce minister is likely to return home on September 1.
