CCC polls won’t be held on time by Aug 5: EC

DHAKA, July 14, 2020 (BSS) – The Election Commission has said it
will not be possible to hold the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC)
polls by August 5 in line with the legal obligations due to
coronavirus situation and apprehension of mudslide in hilly areas
during this monsoon.

The EC issued a letter to the Local Government Body (LGB) to this on Monday.

As per the city corporation law, there is an obligation to hold
polls within 180 days before the end of tenure and the current term of
CCC will end on August 5.

With the end of the tenure the current elected executive body of
the corporation will be dissolved and in this regard administrator
will be appointed to lead the CCC before the joining of new elected
body through polls.

Earlier on March 21, the commission postponed the CCC elections
salted for March 29 along with the by-polls to Bogura-1 and Jashore-6
Jatiya Sangsad seats in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.
