Calls to offer Eid prayers at nearby mosques

DHAKA, July 12, 2020 (BSS) – The government has urged the Muslims
to offer their prayers in the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest
religious festival of the Muslims, at their respective nearby mosques
instead of Eidgah or open places to check the spread of the deadly
coronavirus.

The call was made at an inter-ministerial virtual meeting ahead of
the Eid-ul-Azha at the religious affairs ministry with its secretary
Md Nurul Islam in the chair this afternoon, said a press release.

As per decisions taken in the meeting, the country’s main Eid
congregation will be held at Baitul Mukkaram National Mosque instead
of National Eidgah in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will give
separate messages on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha.

National flag will be hoisted atop all government and
non-government buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad while banners
inscribed with ‘Eid Mubarak’ will be put at key traffic islands in the
capital. Designated government and important military buildings will
be illuminated to mark the festival.

In light with the national programme, every division, district,
upazila, city corporation, municipality and Armed Forces Division and
non-government agencies will formulate respective programme to
celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha.

State-run Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar and private
run television channels will broadcast special programmes and national
dailies will also publish special supplements highlighting significant
of the event.
