DSCC mayor calls people over 60s not to visit cattle markets

DHAKA, June 29, 2020 (BSS) – DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has urged people who are aged 60 years or above not to go to cattle markets this year to avoid getting infected from coronavirus.

He made this call while speaking at a seminar on waste disposal and management held at Nagarbhaban today, said a press release here today.

“From an analysis of WHO data we have come to a realisation that people aged 60 plus are the most vulnerable to COVID-19. That’s why I’m requesting all the elderly citizens to avoid cattle markets,” said the Mayor.

As Eid-ul-Azha will be held amid the coronavirus pandemic, those who will go to the cattle markets have to maintain social distancing as well as health guidelines, the mayor said, adding that people have to use masks and hand gloves at the cattle markets.

The DSCC will conduct mobile courts to ensure proper maintenance of health guidelines at the cattle markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the mayor added.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Shah Md Emdadul Haque, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Badrul Amin, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Dr Sharif Ahmed, Secretary and Akramuzzaman, among others, were also present at the meeting.
