DHAKA, June 7, 2020 (BSS) – The Danish government will finance the Padma (Jashaldia) Water Treatment Plant (Phase-I) project to meet the increasing demand for drinking water in Dhaka city.
Some 4 million dwellers of Dhaka city would get drinkable water from the water treatment plant.
Danish ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Hemnity Winther today informed local government minister Md. Tajul Islam about Denmark’s consent of financing this project in a video conference from Denmark.
If the project is implemented, it would meet the increased demand for drinkable water at old Dhaka, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur and adjacent areas.
Tajul Islam said the plant has a capacity of supplying daily 45 crore litres of water to the capital. He hoped dwellers in the capital would get drinkable water easily under the project by renovating old distribution lines along with installation of new ones.
Terming the project as profitable, the local government minister said “city dwellers would not get only drinkable water through the project but it would also pave way for generating income when the project would be completed.”
The length of distribution line of water supply to Dhaka from Padma (Jashaldia) water treatment plant will be about 141 km and the estimated cost of the project is about Taka 633 crore.
The minister said the government has taken an initiative to build mini fire stations in Dhaka to response quickly to any fire incident.
Tajul Islam thanked the Danish government to evince interest to help building the mini fire stations.
