Ctg port takes preparations to deal cyclone Amphan

CHATTOGRAM, May 19, 2020 (BSS)-Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has taken
different kinds of steps, including evacuation of main jetties, to reduce the
probable damageofsuper cyclone Amphan, whichis likely to hit Bangladesh coast
tomorrow.

The CPA has issued red ‘Alert-3’ to face the situation of Amphan as
Meteorological Department raised their warning signal number seven,
Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Commodore Abul Kalam Azad told BSS in the
afternoon.

The authority also instructed large ships including goods-laden ships to
move to the safer places, he added.

“The authority has taken all kinds of preparation to deal with the
situationto be caused by the cyclone ‘Amphan’,” said Abul Kalam.

The port Chairman said a total of 51 large ships have been anchored in the
deep sea while tugboats and vessels of the port have been kept in safe
shelter.

In addition, fishing trawlers and other ships are also moving to safer
places, he added.

The port’s shipping and transport department have set up three control
rooms to exchange emergency information, source of CPA said.

The Bangladesh meteorological department has asked all the seaports to
display danger signal number 7 due to the super cyclone.
