Digital platform ‘Ek Desh’ launched to collect funds amid COVID-19

DHAKA, May 15, 2020 (BSS)- The Department of Information and Communication Technology today launched ‘Ek Desh’, a digital crowd-funding platform, to collect and mobilize small donations and financial support as humanitarian assistance from people of different walks of life amid the coronavirus(COVID-19) situation.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak officially introduced it through a digital video conferencing, a press release said.

The state minister said that through the platform, everyone can pay their ‘Zakat’ or grant exactly wherever they want.

He suggested to use ‘Ek Desh’ as a bridge for various public-private joint venture investments in the days to come.

To pay Zakat or financial donations, one has to enter the website https://ekdesh.ekpay.gov.bd/ or pay through the ‘Ek Desh’ app, the release added.

The Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, Islamic Foundation, BRAC, Bidyanondo Foundation, Center for Zakat Management, Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) and SAJIDA Foundation have been added as recipients of this grant.

Information Communication Technology Division Senior Secretary NM Ziaul Alam, Access to Information (a2i) Policy Advisor Anir Chowdhury, a2i Project Director Md Abdul Mannan, Bangladesh Scouts President Md Abul Kalam Azad, Islamic Foundation Director General Anis Mahmud, BRAC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Asif Saleh, Bidyanondo Foundation Founder Chairman Kishore Kumar Das, SAJIDA Foundation Chairman Zahida Fizza Kabir, Brand Forum Founder Shariful Islam, Bank Asia President and Managing Director Md Arfan Ali and Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) Chief Executive Shafiqul Islam addressed it on the occasion.
