Proposed budget to turn country toward prosperity: Lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 20, 2018 (BSS) – Lawmakers participating in the
national budget discussion today said the proposed national budget for 2018-
19 fiscal would take the country to the way of prosperity as well as boost up
the economy of the country significantly.

At the same time, they said the mega budget also playing a significant
role by maintaining the continuity of development under the leadership of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Taking part in the general discussion on the proposed budget in the house,
State Minister for Information Tarana Halim said the IMF has already
recognized Bangladesh the 43rd economy in the world and it would be 23rd
world economy within 2050.

Country’s GDP size was only Taka 459,000 crore during the BNP-Jamaat
regime while now it has increased to 19,00000 crore, she said, adding that
country’s budget was only Taka 64,000 crore and now it has jumped to Taka
4.65lakh crore.

She said : “It is impossible to implement the budget accurately by the
government led by the BNP-Jamaat as the government was corrupted from top to
bottom.”

Terming the proposed national budget as pro-people, Land Minister Shamsur
Rahman Sharif said the proposed budget is time-befitting and pro-people as
the budget has been placed in consultation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“The budget is very much significant as the budget didn’t create any
instability in the commodity market and no incident of price hike was taken
place in the country,” he added.

Opposition lawmaker Mohammad Abdul Munim Chowdhury said the proposed
budget is not possible to implement fully by the government.

Criticizing the per capita income as eye wash, the Jatiya Party lawmaker
said the government has showed the per capita income of the people in 2017-18
at 1700 US dollar and it [per capita] would be double if the government give
Mr Bill Gates the citizenship then the per capita will be at least double,
adding so what will be the ultimate benefit for the country.

Even the proposed budget has no direction of employment generation, he
said, adding that country should to take initiative for employment generation
for protecting the country from terrorism, militancy and drugs.

Tazul Islam, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Shamsul Haq Chowdhury, Tanvir Imam, Abdul
Wadud, Dr. Md. Enamur Rahaman, Md. Golam Mostofa Biswas, Begum Safura Begum,
Feroza Begum chinu, Advocate Umme Kulsum Sriti, Laila Arjuman Banu, Nurjahan
Begum , Abul Mannan, Workers Party lawmaker Fazley Hossain Badsha, Tipu
Sultan, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker Shirin Akhter, Jatiya Party Member
Md.Yahya Chowdhury also took part in the general discussion on budget.

On June 7, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith placed a Taka 4,645.73
billion national budget for 2018-19 fiscal setting the GDP growth target at
7.8 percent and detailing a set of programmes to transform the country into a
role model of modern and welfare state by 2041.

Earlier, the lawmakers paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members who were
assassinated on August 15, 1975 and all martyred during the War of Liberation
in 1971.
