Nothing to be worried about food crisis: Khalid

BOCHAGANJ, Dinajpur, May 10, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said there is nothing to be worried about food deficiency as the country witnessed a bumper yield of Boro paddy in the current season.

“The whole world is concerned about food crisis due to the outbreak of COVID-19, but there is nothing for Bangladesh to be worried about it. We have achieved self-sufficiency in food under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

The state minster made the remarks while he was inaugurating rice procurement activities here, said a press release.

Bangladesh even could help other countries by providing food assistance after meeting the domestic need as the country witnessed a bumper yield of Boro paddy in the current season, Khalid added.

Noting that 50 lakh people are going to get the Prime Minister’s cash assistance, he said, “Let us know if there is any food shortage anywhere. The government humanitarian assistance is continuing and one crore people are coming under Taka 10 per kg rice programme”.

Bochaganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fakhrul Islam, Upazila Awami League (AL) General Secretary Afsar Ali and former Muktijoddha Commander Zafar Ullah were present on the occasion, among others.

Earlier, Khalid distributed cash assistance among 50 artistes of the upazila.
