AL leaders monitoring countrywide relief activities: Hasan

DHAKA, May 5, 2020 (BSS)- Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said
Awami League leaders, as per the directive of the Prime Minister, are
continuously monitoring relief distribution activities across the country
from the city’s AL president’s political office.

“Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from time to time is also giving
necessary directives through video conference,” he told reporters after a
meeting at the AL president political office in the capital.

AL Presidium Members Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman and Joint
General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim also spoke.

Hasan said Awami League leaders and activists are carrying out relief
distribution activities vastly as millions of people got the relief across
the country.

The information minister said Prime Minister and also Awami League
President Sheikh Hasina is monitoring the activities of party leaders
regularly through video conference and giving necessary directives.

On the other hand, he said, the BNP leaders are busy with photo sessions
while the AL leaders and activists are distributing relief items in rural
areas.

The BNP leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Ruhul Kabir
Rizvi, have kept themselves busy with photo sessions after giving relief to a
few people.

The information minister said they (BNP) are mainly busy with conspiring
against the government and Awami League as well.

Besides, he said, the leaders of BNP are also highlighting some
corruptions. Actually, the countrymen laugh at them when they talk about
corruption as Bangladesh became champions on corruption for the five
consecutive times during the BNP regime and their chief whitened black money,
said Hasan, also AL joint general secretary.

He said BNP’s senior vice chairman, who is now acting chairman, Tarique
Rahman is a convicted fugitive in a graft case.

Hasan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is moving ahead by taking ‘zero
tolerance’ policy against corruption. She (the Premier) has directed to take
necessary steps through mobile courts in case of any irregularity in relief
distribution.

He said the government has already suspended some union parishads chairmen
and members for their corruption.

The information minister said the world community and leaders, including
World Health Organization, World Economic Forum and Forbes Magazine, have
praised the Bangladesh government’s activities of combating Coronavirus
pandemic.

But, he said, the BNP leaders cannot praise the activities as they don’t
practice the culture of praising others.

Nanak, in his remarks, said Awami League always stands beside the
countrymen at any situation as per the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina.

He said the AL leaders are monitoring the relief distribution activities
across the country while AL leaders and activists are distributing relief
among the poor people.

He hoped that the country will become free from the Coronavirus epidemic
soon and the wheels of the country’s economy will move again under the
dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Abdur Rahman said Awami League is working to give reliefs to real needy
people.

AL Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, Organising secretaries BM
Mozammel Haque and SM Kamal Hossain, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal
Kanti Das, MP, Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua and Deputy Office
Secretary Sayem Khan, among others, were present.
