15 more test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 01, 2020 (BSS) – Fifteen more people, including seven females,
were detected as coronavirus (COVID-19) positive after testing a total of 282
samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur of Rangpur
division today.

The total number of COVID-19 infected patients rose to 143 today with the
detection of 15 more coronavirus patients in Rangpur, Kurigram and Nilphamari
districts of Rangpur division.

“We detected 14 new COVID-19 patients, including seven females, after
testing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College
(RMC) today,” Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task
Force and Principal of RMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Laizu told BSS this
evening.

“The 14 newly detected COVID-19 patients include seven each of four
upazilas and Rangpur city of Rangpur and four upazilas of Kurigram
districts,” Dr. Laizu said.

Among the seven new patients of Rangpur, two each hailed from Pirgachha and
Badarganj upazilas and one each from Mithapukur, Pirganj and Rangpur city.

The seven other detected COVID-19 infected patients of Kurigram district
include three of Rajarhat upazila, two of Sadar upazila and one each of
Ulipur and Chilmari upazilas.

“Eight of the newly detected 14 coronavirus patients at the COVID
Laboratory at RMC today are aged between 25 and 40 years, two between 42 and
45 years, three between 14 and 17 years and two others between nine and 14
years,” Dr. Laizu added.

Talking to BSS, Principal of M Abdur Rahim Medical College ((MARMC)
Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker said one male, 30, was detected as coronavirus
positive after testing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at MARMC today.

“The newly detected coronavirus infected patient hailed from Jaldhaka
upazila of Nilphamari district,” Dr. Sarker added.

The district-wise break of detected COVID-19 patients now stands at 46 in
Rangpur, eight in Panchagarh, 16 in Nilphamari, three in Lalmonirhat, 18 in
Kurigram, 16 in Thakurgaon, 17 in Dinajpur and 19 Gaibandha districts of the
division.
