PM greets party colleagues on Pahela Baishakh
DHAKA, April 14, 2020 (BSS) – Prime Minister and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina today greeted her party colleagues on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla Nabo Barsho (Bengali New Year) 1427, via a video call.
“The prime minister extended the Nabo Barsho greetings by making the video call to mobile phone of Information Minister and AL Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud at her (AL president) Dhanmondi political office here this afternoon,” AL Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua told BSS.
While talking to the party leaders present there over phone, Biplab said, the AL president asked all to stay alert and follow the health codes properly to protect themselves from the transmission of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
The premier also instructed them to move by maintaining social distancing to prevent the deadly virus, he said
AL Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan were present there, among others.
Pahela Baishakh is one of the most colourful festivals through which the Bangalees bid farewell to the old year and welcome the New Year amid joy and much enthusiasm.
But this year all traditional programmes were cancelled to avoid mass gatherings as part of a measure to halt the Covid-19 outbreak that has already claimed 46 lives in Bangladesh and over 1,20,000 across the globe.
The government earlier gave directives to all to celebrate the festival in digital method to avoid public gatherings.
