Tulip reappointed UK Shadow Minister for Children & Early Years

DHAKA, April 10, 2020 (BSS) – Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, a British parliament
member and granddaughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman, has been reappointed as the Shadow Minister for Children & Early
Years as part of a reshuffle following the election of new Labour leader Kier
Starmer.

“I’m pleased @Keir_Starmer has asked me to stay on as Shadow Minister for
Children & Early Years. I wish my friend @AngelaRayner luck and look forward
to working with @RLong_Bailey to help children, parents and childcare
providers through this crisis and beyond #StrongLabourWomen,” she tweeted.

Tulip, daughter of Sheikh Rehana and niece of Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina, previously served in the position following Tracy Brabin’s promotion
to shadow culture secretary. She also served in the same role between 2016
and 2017.

Tulip has been reelected Member of Parliament (MP) in the UK general
election held on December 12, 2019 as a candidate of Labour Party. She was
reelected from Hampstead and Kilburn parliamentary constituency for the third
term.

She bagged 28080 votes while Jony Luck from Conservative Party got 13,892
votes in the election.

In the June, 2017 UK general election, Tulip retained her Hampstead and
Kilburn seat with a margin of 15,560 votes.

Tulip was first elected to represent the constituency in the UK general
election of May 2015.

After the election, Tulip was inducted into the shadow cabinet of Labour
Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and joined Shadow Minister of Education Angela
Rayner’s team of four as the Shadow Minister of Early Years education.

She, however, resigned as the shadow minister following Jeremy Corbyn’s
decision to impose a three-line whip on Labour MPs to vote in favour of
triggering Article 50.

Tulip was a former councilor in Regent’s Park and Cabinet Member for
Culture and Communities in Camden Council, according to Wikipedia.

Born in Mitcham, London in 1982, Tulip completed two Master’s degrees —
one in English literature and another in Politics, Policy and Government —
from King’s College London.
