260 more people released from quarantine in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, April 6, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 260 more people were released from both home and institutional quarantine in all eight districts under Rajshahi division in the past 24 hours till 8 am today

As of today, the number of total released people from home-quarantine stood at 5,966 while 1,261 others remained in home and institutional quarantine in the division at present.

Divisional Director of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya said a total of 7,228 people have so far been put under home quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Meanwhile, a total of 54 new persons have been kept under home quarantine and 260 others were released in the division in the last 24 hours till this morning.

Among the new ones, seven have been kept at home quarantine in Rajshahi, three in Chapainawabganj, six in Naogaon, five in Natore, and eight in Pabna districts.

He added that an integrated measure has been adopted to bring all the overseas returnees and other suspects under home quarantine to curb the virus spread.

He also said comprehensive efforts are continuing to follow the health related guidelines like staying at home, social distancing and washing hands with soap.

The armed forces and other law-enforcing agencies have been working relentlessly to supplement the efforts of the government to limit the spread of the deadly virus.

Meanwhile, selling of Taka 10 per kilogram rice began here yesterday side by side with distribution of foodstuffs among poor families aimed at lessening their sufferings.

“One hundred and eight metric tonnes of rice was sold at 54 points in all eight districts of Rajshahi division including the Rajshahi city areas through the enlisted dealers simultaneously yesterday benefiting a large number of low-income group people,” said Raihanul Kabir, Regional Controller of the Department of Food.

Any of the targeted group people can purchase 20 kilograms of rice, five kilograms each in three days- Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday- every week from now on, he added.

Kabir said the daily wage-earners, rickshaw-pullers, van-pullers, transport labourers, vendors, tea-stall owners, beggars, vagabonds and transgender people will get the rice through showing their national identity cards.

He added that the government wants to provide food support to the poor and extreme poor families for mitigating their suffering.

District administration and the district controllers of food will supervise the rice selling activities so that only the targeted group of people can get the supports of the government.
