Govt gives directives to follow flag rules properly

DHAKA, Aug 10, 2017 (BSS) – The government in an official handout today issued directives to all concerned to follow the flag rules to display national flag on different national and other days.

“The Bangladesh Flag Rules formulated in 1972 has given directives how to display national flag properly. It is a duty of every citizen to follow the directives,” said the official handout.

It said according to Bangladesh Constitution, the national flag shall consist of a circle, coloured red throughout its area, resting on a green background.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Flag Rules, 1972 said the ‘National Flag’ will be in bottle green and rectangular in size in the proportion of length to width 10: 6 bearing a red circle on the body of the green. The red circle will have a radius of one-fifth of the length of the flag.

There are three sizes of the flag for buildings – 10’x6′, 5’x3′ and 21/2’x11/2′.

Size of the ‘Flag’ for big cars is 15”x9” while the size for small and medium size cars is 10” x 6”.

The handout said national flag should be hoisted from sunrise to sunset and the flag cannot be kept hoisting after sunset except displaying in special function, at vehicles, vessels or aircrafts.

If the flag rules are violated, highest one-year imprisonment or Taka five thousand fine or both would be inflicted.
