SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 16, 2020 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque today said that the government is formulating new regulation to curb the selling of illegal and substandard insecticides in the country.

“Formulation of the new pesticides regulation is underway to check the widespread marketing of unregistered, illegal and low quality pesticides in the country,” he told the House responding to a starred question of treasury bench lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury of Bhola-3.

To check the marketing of low quality pesticides, the minister said, the present government has enacted the Pesticides Act-2018.

Under the act, he said, the pesticide inspectors have the jurisdiction to collect the sample of any sorts of pesticides while marketing in a certain area and send it to the particular pesticide laboratories to ensure its quality and legality.

“If any irregularity after the laboratory test regarding quality of the pesticides is found then the concerned local authority takes legal action,” he told the House.
