Underpasses or overpasses to be built at Narayanganj-Joydebpur rail
crossings: Sujan
SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 12, 2020 (BSS) – Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam
Sujan today told the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that underpasses or overpasses at
level crossing gates from Narayanganj to Joydebpur would be built.
“A feasibility study has been conducted for building underpasses or
overpasses at the level crossing gates from Narayanganj to Joydebpur. In line
with results of the study, steps will be taken to build the underpasses or
overpasses,” he said.
The railways minister was replying to a starred question made by treasury
bench lawmaker AKM Rahmatullah with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in
the chair.
There are 37 level crossing gates in the capital city, Sujan informed the
House saying that Bangladesh Railway (BR) builds foot over-bridges at only
rail stations for smooth movement of the passengers.
Once the underpasses or overpasses are built at the level crossings
gates, there will have no need of building foot over-bridges, he said,
adding, however, the government will scrutinize setting up of foot over-
bridges at the level crossings where underpasses or overpasses will not be
built.
