President’s speech reflects gov’s dev in 11 yrs: lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 2, 2020 (BSS) – Lawmakers from both treasury and opposition benches today hailed the President’s address in the parliament saying that the speech is a real reflection of the government’s ongoing development in the past 11 years.

President M Abdul Hamid in his 163-page speech on January 9 has projected all the development activities took place under the present government in the last 11 years across the country, they said while taking part in the discussion on thanksgiving motion on the speech.

The lawmakers said the President also outlined the government’s future plans for transforming the country into a developed and prosperous one by 2041.

Awami League lawmakers Muhammad Faruk Khan, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira, Md Iqbal Hossain, Suborna Mustafa, Nazma Akther, Bodruddoza Md Farhad Hossain, Adiba Anjum Mita and Gloria Jharna Sarker and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker Hasanul Haq Inu took part in the discussion with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Taking part in the discussion, Muhammad Faruk Khan said the outline and instructions for the government on future development have been reflected in the speech that has inspired the nation.

About the Mujib Year, he said seventeen crore thankful Banglalis are eagerly waiting for celebrating the ‘Mujib Year’ on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“We will not celebrate the year only through different programmes, but will vow afresh to instill the ideology of Bangabandhu into the Bangalis of all generations,” Faruk said.

Noting that the ‘Mujib Year’ will be celebrated across the world, he said, this year, not only Bangladeshis, but also people of the whole world will know Bangabandhu, learn about him and love him afresh.

Denouncing BNP for seeking help from foreign embassies in Dhaka over two Dhaka city corporation polls on February 1, he said, “Our people is in the center of our all powers”.

Hasanul Haq Inu criticized BNP for calling hartal rejecting the results of the two Dhaka city corporation polls held on Saturday and said they have called the strike as it is their old bad habit.

Terming the BNP-Jamaat as communal force, Inu said politics of BNP-Jamaat must be sent into exile forever.

Fazilatun Nessa Indira said due to the women-friendly initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has achieved unprecedented success in the global development index.

Referring to the government’s successes in women empowerment, she said according to Gender Gap Report Bangladesh secured 48th position in terms of reducing the gender gap while it is 5th in political women’s empowerment among the 149 countries.

Noting that 100,000 women entrepreneurs will be created in the ‘Mujib Year’, the state minister said the women are being given different trainings by the Joyeeta Foundation across the country.

Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has declared the ‘Mujib Year’ as child marriage prevention year, she said, adding view exchange meetings were held with the participation of divisional commissioners, deputy inspector general of police, police supers, deputy commissioners, local Imams, kazis and public representatives in Sylhet, Chattogram, Rangpur and Mymensingh in this regard.

Besides, all committees on child marriage prevention at union, district and national levels have been activated, Indira said.

The lawmakers congratulated the newly elected mayors of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Md Atiqul Islam on their win.

Earlier, the lawmakers paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his sacrifice and contribution to establish an independent Bangladesh. They also paid rich tributes to the national four leaders and martyrs of 1975 carnage.
