Commemorative symbols of liberation war to be preserved: Mozammel

RANGPUR, Feb 1, 2020 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs’ Minister AKM Mozammel
Haque today said the present government has taken ample steps to preserve
various commemorative symbols of the Great War of Liberation across the
country.

“After increasing honorarium of the freedom fighters, the greatest sons
and daughters of the soil, the present government is introducing identity
cards in recognition of their due honour and providing appropriate benefits,”
he said.

The Minister was addressing a grand rally of freedom fighters arranged on
the ‘Udgiron Mancha’ on the Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises in Kurigram
district town this afternoon as the chief guest.

After recitation from the holy books of different religions followed by
rendering of the national anthem, special munajats were offered seeking
divine blessings of departed souls of three million martyred of the War of
Liberation before beginning of the function.

The Minister formally inaugurated newly constructed four Muktijoddha
Complex Buildings of Sadar, Rajarhat, Phulbari and Bhurungamari upazilas by
unveiling plaques amid mammoth applause of the freedom fighters.

The Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) completed
construction of the four upazila level Muktijoddha Complex Buildings at a
cost of Taka 9.10 crore during the 2018-2019 FY in Kurigram district.

In presence of over 1,000 freedom fighters from all nine upazilas of
Kurigram district, the Minister also unveiled cover of the Memorial on the
War of Liberation on the occasion with Deputy Commissioner of the district
Sultana Pervin in the chair.

He also visited the War of Liberation Affairs ‘Uttarbanga Jadughar’, built
by personal initiative of Public Prosecutor of Kurigram Advocate Abraham
Lincon at his house in the district town.

The Minister said after the introduction of the identity cards, special
facilities will be reserved for the freedom fighters in the government
institutions across the country.

President of Kurigram district Awami League (AL), former AL lawmaker and
District Council Chairman Md. Jafar Ali, immediate past district AL President
freedom fighter Aminul Islam Manju Mandal, former District Muktijoddha
Commander Sirajul Islam Tuku, freedom fighters Shawkat Ali Sarker Bir Bikram,
Harun Ar Rashid Lal and Abdul Baten, Police Super Mohammad Muhibul Islam
Khan, were present.
