Ctg Mass Killing Day observed

CHITTAGONG, Jan 24, 2020 (BSS) – Chattogram Mass Killing Day was observed here today with a call for implementing the verdict which awarded capital punishment to five former police personnel on January 20 in the sensational Chattogram mass-killing case of 1988 that killed 24 people.

Different socio-cultural and political organizations observed the day through various programmes including placing of wreaths on the premises of Chattogram Court Hill Monument, discussion, hoisting of black flags and wearing of black badges.

The day was observed in commemoration of 24 innocent people who were killed in indiscriminate police firing on Awami League President and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s motorcade procession as they were attending a grand rally at city’s Lal Dighi Maidan on January 24, 1988.

At least 200 people were injured in the grisly attack on that day.

Chattogram city Awami League organized a discussion meeting in front of Chattogram Court Hill Monument premises to mark the day.

Acting President of Chattogram city Awami League (AL) Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury presided over the discussion while general secretary of Chattogram city AL and city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, AL leaders Noyeem Uddin Chowdhuryd, Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Babul, and Advocate Iftekher Saimul Chowdhury, among others, spoke.

A Chattogram court on January 20 awarded capital punishment to five former police personnel — JC Mandal, Prodip Barua, Mustafizur Rahman, Shah Md Abdullah and Momtaj Uddin — in the sensational Chattogram mass-killing case in 1988 that killed 24 people.
