Freedom fighter Abul Kashem passes away

RANGPUR, Jan 24, 2020 (BSS) – Freedom fighter (FF) Md Abul Kashem died of
old-age complications at his residence in Purbo Chandhat Sheikhpara village
under Kursha union of Kawnia upazila of the district on Thursday night.

He was 72.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sons, a host of friends,
relatives, admirers and fellow freedom fighters and well-wishers to mourn his
death.

Kashem bravely participated in many fights including frontal battles
against the Pakistani occupation army during the War of Liberation in 1971
causing huge casualties to the enemy forces.

The news of his death cast a pall of gloom in the socio-cultural,
political, professional and every arena of Kawnia upazila as well as in
Rangpur district as a whole.

His body was taken to nearby Burahat High School ground this noon where
his fellow freedom fighters, friends, politicians, educationists, socio-
cultural activists and civil society members paid their last respect to the
heroic son of the soil.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kawnia upazila Jasmine Nahar and Officer-
in-Charge (OC) of Kawnia Thana Azizul Islam put the National flag and floral
wreaths on his coffin on behalf of the state.

A smart contingent of police forces gave a guard of honour and bugle
played the last post before his Namaz-e-Janaza there after the Juma prayers.

Later, he was buried beside his parents and forefathers at their family
graveyard in native Purbo Chandhat Sheikhpara village with full state honour
this afternoon.

Company Commander freedom fighter Abdul Hakim, Principal Abdul Rashid,
Headmaster Shah Awlad Hossain and Kursha union parishad Chairman Mohammad
Hossain Sarker attended the Namaz-e-Janaza.

They also condoled the death of freedom fighter Abul Kashem, conveyed deep
sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed
soul.
