Bima Mela begins tomorrow in Khulna

DHAKA, Jan 23, 2020 (BSS) – The fourth edition of Bima Mela (Insurance Fair)-2019 will begin tomorrow in Khulna with a view to raise awareness about insurance and provide precise knowledge about it.

The Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) will organize the fair on the premises of the Khulna Circuit House.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today, on the eve of fair, issued separate messages greeting the concerned people on this occasion.

The President and the Prime Minister wished a success of all programmes taken by the concerned authorities to hold the fair.

President Abdul Hamid, in his message, said the insurance sector is one of the financial and social security based sectors in the world.

He said it (insurance) protects people as well as financial industry by providing insurance or financial benefits against potential financial loss.

The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman first nationalized the insurance companies of the country through an ordinance to reconstruct the economy of the war-torn country, he added.

Since then the advancement of insurance industry started in Bangladesh, the President said.

Prime minister, in her message, highlighted the efforts of the ruling Awami League government for the betterment of the people of the country.

She said the government has taken various initiatives to introduce public health insurance, public pension, agricultural insurance and education insurance for the people to ensure their security.

“We have introduced overseas insurance for the expatriates to protect migrant workers,” she added.

Under the National Security Strategy, insurance is being considered as one of the main mediums of protection to minimize the risks of old-aged, unemployed and disabled people, autistic children and pregnant women, she said.

“To improve the quality of the insurance sector, we formulated the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority Act-2010 and National Insurance Policy -2014,” she said.

She said the government has taken necessary measures to introduce digital insurance system in Bangladesh to increase insurance demand and gain public confidence.
