SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 22, 2020 (BSS) – Highlighting the development activities took place in the country under the present government, both treasury bench and opposition lawmakers today said the country is now going ahead keeping pace with the developed world.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking the country forward ignoring all kinds of conspiracy. I think the government has become successful in ensuring all basic needs, including food, cloth, education, health and shelter, under her leadership,” Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said.
The land minister said this while taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on President M Abdul Hamid’s January 9 address to the House.
Recalling the heinous incident of killing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members on August 15 in 1975, Saifuzzaman said, “Bangabandhu had dreamt of building a non-communal and hungry- and poverty-free country and he had also started works in this regard within his three- and half-year term”.
He went on saying but the anti-liberation forces were not stopped rather they not only killed Bangabandhu, but also killed the democracy on the black night of 1975.
“We, however, have got a self-dependent Bangladesh as Bangabandhu’s daughters Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana are still alive, escaping the 1975 carnage. Sheikh Hasina is taking the country ahead upholding the dream of Bangabandhu,” the land minister said.
Referring to different development activities took place in the country’s land sector, the minister said once the land sector was suffering from image crisis, but now it has become a branding sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Noting that initiatives have been taken to digitalise the land management system to lessen the public suffering, he said e-mutation will be available across the country within the ‘Mujib Barsha’.
Taking part in the discussion, Mahbubul Alam Hanif said: “Bangladesh was called as the test case for development after the country’s independence. But Bangladesh is now advancing legging behind Pakistan and neighboring India in many indexes of development”.
Different international organisations and economic experts, including World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Economic Forum and Asian Development Bank, are now presenting Bangladesh, which has been changing over the last decade, in different parts of the world as a bright example of development, he said.
Referring to the launching of Bangabandhu Satellite-1, e-Passport and increased capacities in the military sector, Hanif said Bangladesh is now moving forward keeping the pace with developed world.
Awami League lawmakers Mohammad Shahiduzzaman, Major (Retd) Rafiqul Islam, Bir Uttam, Tahzeeb Alam Siddique, Dr Samil Uddin Ahmed Shimul, Mst Khaleda Khanum, Ramesh Chandra Sen and Kazi Kaniz Sultana, Jatiya Party lawmaker Salma Islam, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker Shirin Akhter, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Md Harunur Rashid also took part in the discussion with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Terming the President’s speech as a reflection of the development took place in the last 11 years across the country under the present government, the lawmakers thanked the President for his speech.
Highlighting the President’s speech on the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the lawmakers said celebration of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will remain as a milestone in the history.
Earlier, they paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
