President’s speech reflects country’s overall development: lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 14, 2020 (BSS) – Lawmakers from the treasury bench today highly appreciated the speech of President M Abdul Hamid in the parliament describing it as the reflection of the country’s overall development led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“The country is heading towards development and progress . . . the speech of President M Abdul Hamid reflected the overall development of the country”, State Minister for Shipping Ministry Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, while initiating the general discussion on a thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech in the House.

Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury moved the thanksgiving motion in the House while treasury bench lawmaker ASM Feroz seconded it with Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Referring to development activities taken place in the shipping sector during the Awami League government, Khalid said the president in his speech projected all the developments taken place in the country’s every sector.

Treasury bench lawmaker Vice-Principal Abdus Shahid said the president, in his 163-page speech on January 9 in 2020, on the first day of the 6th session of in the 11th parliament, highlighted all development activities taken place in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Referring to the economic growth rate and per capita income increased during the present government, he said the country witnessed a remarkable development in all sectors, including education, railways and agriculture, which has already been being followed by other nations.

Lawmakers – Md Habibe Millat, Jinnatul Bakia, Saifuzzaman, Nargis Rahman, Anwarul Abedin Khan, Zakia Tabassum and Shamsun Nahar took part in the discussion.

Highlighting the President’s speech on the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the lawmakers said celebration of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will remain as a milestone in the history.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the successful stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid a rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
