Mashrafe pulls out his name from BCB contract

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2020 (BSS) – Mashrafe Bin Mortaza pulled out his name from the central contract list, which the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will announce very soon.

The ODI captain himself requested the BCB to not to consider his name in the contract list to make a way for a new player who could give the side a service for long time, said BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon.

“Mashrafe requested us not to include him in the contract list because he wants someone who could give the side a service for long time, to be included in place of him,” Papon said here today after the Board of Directors meeting of the BCB.

“We have already prepared a list which was put in the meeting. But after discussing about the matter elaborately, we think we should bring some changes in the list. Since some of the new players have been playing good, we wanted them to include in the list. The committee will further review it after which we will announce the new contract list.”

Mashrafe has recently pushed the ball to the court of BCB regarding his retirement issue, saying that if BCB forces he would think about it. But at this moment, he has no plan to walk into the sunset.

At the same time, he said he doesn’t want any grand farewell as BCB planned to give him during his last match.

The BCB president said that if Mashrafe doesn’t want grand farewell, they won’t force him but he didn’t clear whether they would tell Mashrafe to retire from the cricket.

“After reading the newspaper I came to know that Mashrafe doesn’t want any farewell. If he doesn’t want, we have no reservation. We won’t force him. But I told him during the World Cup that we want to arrange a match for him to give him a befitting farewell to which he said he wants to play till the BPL after which he will take his decision. That’s it just.”

Meanwhile, BCB president said as part of their intention to focus more on the Test cricket, they enhanced the match fee for the longer version format significantly.

The BCB increased the Test match fee for per match to BDT 2 lac to make it BDT 6 lac. A player however will get BDT 3 lac for per ODI and BDT 2 lac for per T20 match, as per the revised match fee.

The BCB also has taken a decision to increase the number of stadiums in and out of the Dhaka to hold matches of their first class cricket, female cricket and aged level cricket.

They have already signed a MoU with Mymesingh Agriculture University to use their two grounds. At the same time, BCB will use the ground of Barishal, Sylhet and Keraniganj.
