‘Individual integrity crucial for establishing institutional integrity’

RANGPUR, Jan 12, 2020 (BSS) – Officials at an orientation programme today
said practicing integrity at individual level is crucial for establishing
institutional integrity to eradicate corruption and ensure transparency in
the service delivery system.

They viewed this at the ‘Orientation on National Integrity Strategy in
Nilphamari Sadar upazila’ organised by Sadar upazila administration at Sadar
upazila parishad auditorium in Nilphamari district town.

National Integrity Strategy Support Project, Phase-2 (NIS-2) of the
Cabinet Division extended assistance in arranging the day-long event with
financial support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The event was arranged for building a developed Sonar Bangla adopting the
National Integrity Strategy to establish transparency and accountability at
all levels for preventing corruption in government activities.

Government officials, Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs), Union Chairmen, NGO
representatives, journalists, teachers and civil society members participated
in the programme.

Deputy Commissioner of Nilphamari Hafizur Rahman Chowdhury attended the
programme as the chief guest with Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Elena Akhter
in the chair.

Deputy Director (Local Government) for Nilphamari Abdul Motaleb Sarkar,
Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shaheed Mahmood, its Vice-chairmen Deepak
Chakraborty and Shantona Chakraborty addressed as special guests.

UNO Elena Akhter delivered multimedia presentation on the role of the
government in implementing the National Integrity Strategy.

Senior Assistant Secretary of the Cabinet Division Nahid Sultana
highlighted content of the National Integrity Strategy Support Project,
Phase-2.

The chief guest stressed on practicing integrity at the individual level
with a changed mindset to establish institutional integrity and suggested for
formulating the state laws and institutional rules as integrity-friendly for
all to build corruption-free society.

The speakers said integrity is the behavior influenced by the ethics of
honesty and obedience to the standards, policies and customs of society since
the ancient times.

They said individual level integrity is sincerity to duty, dedication,
honesty and good character while the collective rhythm of individuals in
practicing integrity reflects in the institution.
