Khasru for checking antibiotic use in livestock sector

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Md
Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru today urged the poultry and livestock farmers to
consider the public interest along with their own in rearing cattle and
poultry to check antibiotic use and other harmful ingredients in food
production.

“If the (farmers) remain aware of the public interest, the excessive use
of antibiotic and other harmful elements in food production will be reduced,
resulting safe animal nutrition and safe food,” he said addressing a function
at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the city’s Farmgate area.
Bangladesh Animal Nutrition Society (BANS) organised the function with its
President Professor Md Ali Akbar in the chair.

Khasru said the present government under the leadership of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken all steps to ensure the safe food for the
country’s people.

Noting that importation of meat and bone meal (MBM) feed has, already,
been banned, the state minister said it is being monitoring strictly.

“We are lagged behind in milk production though we achieved self
sufficiency in fish and meat productions,” he said, adding all should work
together so that a beautiful, prosperous and developed Bangladesh can be
presented to the next generation.

Additional Secretary of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Kazi Wasi
Uddin, Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Director General (DG) Dr Abdul
