Ex-CJ Mahmudul Amin Choudhury laid to rest

SYLHET, Dec 23, 2019 (BSS) -Former Chief Justice (CJ) Mahmudul Amin Choudhury was laid to eternal rest at the graveyard near the Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) shrine in the city tonight.

He was buried after Esha prayers following a namaz-e-janaza on the premises of the graveyard.

Earlier, his body was taken to Sylhet from Dhaka to allow the people of all walks of life to pay their last tributes to him. Politicians, cultural and social activists and professionals attended his janaza in Sylhet.

His first namaz-e-janaza was held on the Supreme Court premises in the morning in Dhaka.

Justice Mahmudul Amin Choudhury died of old-age complications at the age of 85 at his Dhanmondi residence in Dhaka on Sunday.

He is survived by two daughters, a son and a host of relatives and admirers.

Justice Choudhury was appointed as the chief justice on March 1 in 2001 and retired from his post on June 17 in 2002. He started his career in 1963.

He got enormous success in field of sports in his student life.

Justice Choudhury was an expert shooter and one of the founding members of Sylhet Rifles Club.
