DHAKA, Dec 17, 2019 (BSS)-Young pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana claimed his career best 4-23 as Chattogram Challengers made a winning start to their home ground phase of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) with a hard-fought four-wicket victory over Sylhet Thunder at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.

While Rana was on song, Sylhet also dug their own graveyards by putting up yet another dismal batting show which saw them restricted to paltry 129-8, after being sent to bat first.

Chattogram though lost some wickets in quick succession, they somehow managed to make it their day by reaching 130-6 in 18 overs and handed Sylhet their fourth straight defeat.

In a slow and low wicket, Chattogram opener Lendl Simmons kept the side on track, playing a 37 ball-44 runs knock, which was studded by three fours and as many sixes.

In pursuit of their target, Chattogram lost opener Avishka Fernadno (5) cheaply before Imrul Kayes (6) and captain Mahmudullah Riyad (2) paid the price of their rash shots. Chadwick Walton then followed the suit, being out on 9, leaving the side 56-4 in ninth over.

Amid the downfall of his teammates, Simmons played with utmost confidence to keep the on track until he was trapped run out.

Sylhet looked to break the jinx of defeat after the dismissal of Simmons as they stemmed the run flow by taking some quick wickets, thanks to medium pacer Krishmar Santokie who finished with 3-13 in four overs.

However, Nurul Hasan Sohan held his nerve and sailed the side home eventually with 37 off 24, clobbering two fours and three sixes. Along with him, Kesrick Williams also played a vital role, striking 18 off 17 with one four and two sixes, last of which sealed the deal.

Opener Andre Fletcher was the highest scorer for Sylhet Thunder with 32 ball-38, hitting three fours and two sixes while captain Mosaddek Hossain Saikat made 22 ball-30 that included two fours.

The duo drove the side past 100 which looked unlikely after the impeccable bowling show of young pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana, who sliced the top order and then came back in the death overs to clean up Sylhet’s tail.

Rana’s 4-23 was complemented by Rubel Hossain 2-28 while Muktar Ali and Kesrick Williams picked up one wicket apiece.
