Bangladesh High Commission celebrates Victory Day in Pakistan

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad celebrated the 48th anniversary of great Victory Day of Bangladesh on December 16 with great enthusiasm and festivity.

A day-long programme was organized at the Chancery lawn with the participation of the expatriate Bangladesh community in Islamabad, a section of local dignitaries and the officers and staff members of the High Commission. The Chancery building and lawn were nicely adorned withbanners,posters, drapery in red & green theme and other decorative items.

The morning session of the programme began with the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag of Bangladesh by High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan at the Chancery premises in presence of all the officers and staff members of the High Commission and representatives of Bangladesh expatriates, said a press release received here today.

After the flag hoisting, High Commissioner inaugurated a photo exhibition which depicted some historic photographs of our great War of Liberation along with that of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the seven Bir Shreshthas.

Visitors took keen interest in the exhibition and appreciated the efforts for presenting some rare snapshots of our glorious history, particularly to the youngsters.

In the afternoon session began with the observance of one minute silence to pay homage to the memory of the martyrs of the War of Liberation and placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, released on the occasion, were read out by the officials of the Mission, it added.

Tarik Ahsan, in his speech, paid rich tribute to the memories of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at whose call, inspiration and moral leadership people from all walks of life joined the War of Liberation.

He expressed profound gratitude for the sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters, the martyrs, the wounded and the mothers & sisters during the War of Liberation.

While highlighting the remarkable socio-economic development of Bangladesh, particularly during the last decade under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, High Commissioner stressed that achieving material and economic success was not the ultimate objective of the nation. Building a humane, just and truly welfare state in accordance with the spirit of our great war of liberation is the ultimate target of the nation.

He particularly emphasized the need of uprooting the evils like terrorism, radicalism, drugs, corruption etc from the society for which Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has adopted a zero-tolerance policy.

The high commissioner urged everyone to lend their support to the government in winning this battle against social ills, the release added.

He expressed his deep appreciation to the Pakistani friends of Bangladesh for their participation at the event. Here marked that their attendance at the celebration of our Victory Day was an unmistakable testimony to their commitment to truth and justice, and their genuine love for the people of Bangladesh.

Noted human rights activist of Pakistan, Ms. Tahira Abdullah, expressed her deep remorse at the distorted history that has been being taught in Pakistan generation-after-generation and extended her personal apologies for the atrocities committed against the people of Bangladesh.

She mentioned that, like herself, there were many Pakistanis who could glimpse the actual face of history, notwithstanding the official narratives in the country and demanded that the state of Pakistan offer a full-fledged apology to the people of Bangladesh.

She wished further progress and development of Bangladesh in the days ahead.

After the discussion, a special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace of the souls of Bangabandhu and the martyrs of the Liberation War as well as the continued peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.

A video documentary on Liberation War culminating in the glorious victory was screened.

Later, a cultural segment was presented for the audience. The performances included dances to the tune of iconic songs of Swadheen Bangla Betarkendra as well as recitation of poems inspired by great War of Liberation.

The day-long programme was rounded off with a buffet lunch where various Bangladeshi delicacies were served.
