Killings of intellectuals black chapter in history: academics

RANGPUR, Dec 14, 2019 (BSS) – Academics at a discussion today said the killing of intellectuals is a black chapter in the history of our Great War of Liberation War and freedom struggle.

“Knowing certain defeat, the Pakistani invaders with their local allies killed the country’s sun-born intellectuals to make the nation talentless,” said Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah.

Kalimullah was addressing the discussion arranged in observance of the Martyred Intellectuals’ Day (MID)-2019 at central cafeteria of the university on the campus as the chief guest, said a press release.

Earlier, the Vice-chancellor, teachers, officials and employees of the university began the observance with wearing black badges, placing wreaths at the ‘Domdoma Mass Grave’ after bring out a mourning walkathon and observance of one-minute silence.

The programs also included milad and doa mahfil followed by offering special munajats at the central mosque of the university seeking divine blessings for departed souls of the martyred intellectuals and discussions.

Later, Convener of the Martyred Intellectuals’ Day-2019 Observance Committee Professor Dr. RM Hafizur Rahman presided over the discussion moderated by its Member-secretary Tabiur Rahman Prodhan.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina, Dean of the Faculty of Life and Earth Science Md. Atiur Rahman and Registrar of the university Colonel (Retd) Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal addressed as special guests.

The speakers appealed to the new generation to save the country from the distortions of history and to realise dream of the martyred intellectuals by following ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
