Inflation reaches 6.05% in November

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2019 (BSS) – The general point-to-point inflation rate reached 6.05 percentage point in November.

“The general point-to-point inflation rate in November reached 6.05
percentage point,” said Planning Minister MA Mannan today.

He said this while briefing reporters after the monthly consumer price
index was placed before the ECNEC meeting held in the NEC conference room in
the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

The general point-to-point inflation rate was 5.47 percentage point in
October.

The Planning Minister said the general point-to-point inflation rate
increased by 0.58 percent last month from the previous month mainly because
of the onion price hike.

“The main actor (behind the inflation uptrend) is onion. We don’t want to
hide anything and our stance is very much clear in this regard,” he added.

Mannan said although the inflation trend is showing a “zig-zag” trend,
but, it is likely to ease in the coming days with the availability of winter
vegetables.

The BBS data showed that the food inflation increased to 6.41 percent in
November from 5.49 percent in the previous month, while the non-food
inflation rate also increased slightly to 5.47 percent last month from 5.45
percent in October.

In the rural areas, the general inflation rate increased to 6.01 percent
in the last month from 5.36 percent in October.

The general inflation rate also increased to 6.12 percent in November from
5.67 percent in October in the urban areas.

The point-to-point national wage index witnessed an uptrend tread with
6.42 percent in November against 6.38 percent in October 2019.
