Govt. sincere to enhance country’s economy: Speakers

RAJSHAHI, Dec 10, 2019 (BSS)- Speakers at a post-rally meeting here today unanimously said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to lay the country’s economy on a strong foundation.

They urged all concerned to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity, honesty and patriotic zeal for furthermore strengthen the country’s economy. There is no alternative to collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) for building middle income Bangladesh by 2021.

They came up with the observation while addressing the inaugural session of National VAT DAY and Week-2019 at Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Zila Parishad auditorium. Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate organized the programme.

On the occasion, 20 highest VAT-paying persons and business institutions were given awards as recognition to their laudable contribution to this field.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Jakir Hossain and Commissioner of Income Taxes Commissionerate Mofiz Ullah addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Lutfor Rahman in the chair.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Suzayet Islam, Deputy Commanding Officer of RAB-5 Major Murshed Hassan and President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Md Muniruzzaman also spoke while Additional Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Mirja Shahiduzzaman welcomed the participants.

Jakir Hossain said proper functioning of the country’s business sector and other trade-related activities are the precondition to uphold the growth indicators and that is very important to bolster the economic field.

There is no alternative to large-scale expansion of trade and business to take forward the country’s development, he added. “Every one of us should feel about how to develop the nation and how to reduce the dependency on foreign aid,” he said.

Jakir Hossain viewed that the enhanced revenue collection from both internal and external sources could be an effective means of reducing dependence on foreign aid for implementing the uplift programmes.

Earlier, a large number of officials and staff of the commissionerate brought out a huge colourful rally that paraded through the city thoroughfares carrying placards, banners and festoons before being ended at the meeting venue marking the day.
