POKHARA, Dec 6, 2019 (BSS) – Shakhawat Hossain and Rokeya Sultana Sathi of Bangladesh both won silver medals under the men’s and women’s category respectively of the ongoing South Asian Games held on Friday at Banquet Hall here.

Shakhawat won silver in the men’s 89 kg weight category while Rokeya Sultana bagged silver in the 71 kg weight category.

Bikash Thapa of Nepal won gold medal in men’s category.

Monprit Kour of India won gold in women’s category while Laxmi Thapa of Nepal bagged silver medal in this event.

In her immediate reaction, Sathi said she feels very frustrated as she failed to snatch gold for the country in this event.

She however said this silver medal would inspire her to do more good performance in the future.

Replying to a question, Sathi said the result could have been different if she was given long term training for the games as the weightlifter got only three months to prepare her for the games.

“The Indian athletes remained busy in the camp and engaged in continuous training round-the-year while we got little support from the other end,” Sathi said.

She said: “Had we got proper training more gold medals would have come in this event for the country.”

On the other hand, Shakhawat also feels very disappointed as he narrowly failed to miss the gold.

He said: “At the beginning I felt a little bit nervous and pressure as it was my first appearance in the meet.”
