PM asks authorities to conserve archeological sites in capital

DHAKA, Aug 2, 2017 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today asked authorities concerned to take steps to conserve the capital’s archaeological sites in required cases with appropriate renovation at a meeting with officials having stake on the issue.

“She gave them the directives which sites should be demolished and which should be protected and renovated considering their historical importance,” premier’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim told newsmen after the meeting.

He said Director General of the Archeological Department Altaf Hossain gave a power point presentation on the present condition of the 93 sites at the meeting of senior officials of the cultural ministry, archeological department and RAJUK official at the PMO.

PM’s Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, PMO Senior Secretary Suriya Begum, Cultural Affairs secretary Ibrahim Hossain Khan, Public Works secretary Shahidullah Khandkar and RAJUK chairman Abdur Rahman were present.
