Inaugural congress of South Asian Chess Council held

DHAKA, Nov 29, 2019 (BSS) – The inaugural congress of the newly formed South Asian Chess Council was held today at a hotel in the city.

President of Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) and Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed presided over the ceremony.

Delegates and general secretaries of Afghanistan National Chess Federation, Bhutan Chess Federation, the Maldives Chess Association, Nepal Chess Association, Chess Federation of Pakistan and Chess Federation of Sri Lanka were present in the congress.

Constitution of the South Asian Chess Council was approved and eight members executive committee were elected in the congress.

BCF President Benazir Ahmed was elected president in the South Asian Chess Council while international arbiter of India Dharmendra Kumar was elected as deputy president.

Besides, Ram Thapa, vice president of Nepal Chess Association, was elected as vice president while G. Luxman Wijesuria, delegate of Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and Lekey Dorji, president of Bhutan Chess Federation, were elected general secretary and treasurer respectively.

Other elected executive committee members are Senator Kalsoom Parveen, president of Chess Federation of Pakistan, Hussain Shiyan, president of the Maldives Chess Association and Ghulam Ali Malak Zad, president of Afghanistan National Chess Federation.

Arun Muthusamy of England was appointed as the chief executive director.
