India quarterly growth falls to 4.5%, worst in six years: gov

MUMBAI, Nov 29, 2019 (BSS/AFP) – India’s economy grew at its slowest pace in more than six years in the July to September period, down to 4.5 percent from 7.0 percent a year ago, government figures showed Friday, underlining the severe challenges facing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The expansion in Asia’s third-largest economy fell from the 5.0 percent recorded in the previous quarter.

It is well below the growth needed for India to provide the millions of new jobs required each year for new entrants in the labour market.
