Nation observes first day of painful August with various programmes

DHAKA, Aug 2, 2017 (BSS) – The first day of tragic month of August to Bangalee nation was observed yesterday with various programmes and with due solemnity.

The day’s programme started with the placing of wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road-32 in the early hours of yesterday.

The ruling Awami League, its associate and like-minded bodies have chalked out a month-long programme in observance of the 42nd anniversary of martyrdom of Bangabandhu, who along with 16 members of his family including wife and three sons, were assassinated on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975.

Both the daughters of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, miraculously survived the mayhem as they were abroad then.

Awami Jubo League organized a month-long photograph exhibition at Shilpokola Academy. Agriculture Minister and AL Presidium Member Begum Matia Chowdhury inaugurated the exhibition with Jubo League Chairman Omar Faruq in the chair.

Besides, the day was marked with holding of discussions, rallies, mourning marches, blood donation camps, free medical camps and human-chains.

Bangladesh Krishak League organised a voluntary blood donation camp and a discussion on the premises of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the programme as the chief guest.

Bangabandhu Somajkollyan Parishad organized a meeting at TSC auditorium. AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader addressed the meeting as the chief guest with parishad Chairman Bahalul Majumder Chunnu in the chair.

21′ August Bangladesh Kendriyo Committee formed a human chain in front of National Press Club. Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique chair it while AL Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud and State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki addressed it.

On the other hand, Tanti League organized recitation of the holy Quran and Milad Mahfil at Banani graveyard in last afternoon.
