Hasan urges Omani entrepreneurs to invest in BD

DHAKA, Nov 25, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today urged the entrepreneurs of Oman to invest in economic zones and high-tech parks in Bangladesh.

“They (Omani investors) can invest in economic zones and high-tech parks… I would like to invite Omani investors to invest in infrastructure, Information technology (IT), agro-processing, tourism and service sectors in Bangladesh,” he said as the chief guest in a programme.

His call came while addressing the national day programme of the Sultanate of Oman organized by Oman Embassy at a city hotel here.

Hasan said Bangladesh has made remarkable advancements in different industries like ready-made garment, pharmaceuticals, ceramic, textiles, home textiles and leather products.

Industries like ship building and ship recycling, IT, plastic goods and light engineering have been flourished in Bangladesh, he added.

He said Bangladesh now has a substantial middle class and growing consumer society.

Mentioning Oman as one of most important destinations for Bangladeshi workforces, he said Bangladeshi workers and professionals in Oman are playing important roles in the economic development of Bangladesh through remittance of foreign currencies.

“The government of Bangladesh has undertaken a policy to ensure safe and orderly migration of our workers,” he said, adding that the government has established vocational training centres in each district in Bangladesh in order to develop skills of the workers.

He hoped that Bangladesh and Oman could enhance their cooperation in the energy, air service, environment and agriculture sectors.

The minister said both countries have shared common position and views on many international issues of mutual interest.

“I would also like to mention that as members of Muslim Ummah, Bangladesh and Oman are cooperate each other on different international issues. Both countries jointly collaborate in the OIC,” he said.

The ambassador of Oman Taeed Salim Abdullah Al Alawi also spoke on the occasion.
