Corruption, drug abuse, terrorism tied in single string: ACC chairman

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2019 (BSS) – Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood today said corruption, drug abuse and terrorism are tied in a single string, considered as major stumbling blocks on way to developing the human resources.

“As per the lists of the Narcotics Control Department, the ACC is conducting investigations into the illegal assets of drug godfathers. Cases have been filed against many offenders,” he said.

The ACC chairman was addressing a quarterly coordination meeting of the Narcotics Control Department with the field level senior officials as the chief guest at the head office of the department in the city’s Segunbagicha area, said a press release.

Noting that due to recent anti-drug campaigns across the country the prevalence of drug abuse has decreased a little bit, Iqbal said some street children are often seen taking drugs.

He underscored the need for indentifying those children and taking measures to rehabilitate them by the social welfare department or government drug addiction treatment centers.

The ACC chairman urged the officials concerned to conduct massive awareness campaigns among the school, college and university students about the harmful impact of the drug abuse.

Director General (DG) of the Narcotics Control Department Md Jamal Uddin Ahmed presided over the meeting, also addressed by, additional DG Sanjiy Kumar Chakrabarti.
