Adolescence education program launched in Nilphamari

RANGPUR, Nov 18, 2019 (BSS) – The epoch-making “Adolescence Education and Services Program during Puberty” was inaugurated today in secondary level education institutions of Nilphamari district.

Initiated by Nilphamari district administration, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Md. Nojibur Rahman inaugurated the program at a function held at Collectorate School and College auditorium in Nilphamari district town.

Earlier, a discussion was arranged by the district administration on the occasion of launching the program in Nilphamari at the district Shilpokola Academy auditorium in the district town.

Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Md. Nojibur Rahman addressed the function as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner of Nilphamari Hafizur Rahman Chowdhury in the chair.

Director General-1 of the Prime Minister’s Office Mohammad Salah Uddin, its Director (Governance Innovation) Md. Ashraf Uddin, Nilphamari District Council Chairman Joynal Abedin, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Barman and District Secondary Education Officer Shafikul Islam addressed the discussion.

The district level government officials, heads of different secondary level educational institutions, NGO executives, teachers, students, guardians, civil society members and local elite attended the occasion.

The Principal Secretary said the Nilphamari district administration has taken an epoch-making step to provide education and services to adolescents during puberty.

“The initiative taken for providing the education and services to adolescents during their puberty period in the Nilphamari is an exception and a role model. The program will be expanded across the country,” he said.

Nojibur said Nilphamari district is a glaring example of the role model of development in Bangladesh set up by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“So why, it is clearly understood that launching of the adolescence education and services program from Nilphamari, is another example of the development agenda,” he added.

Deputy Commissioner Hafizur Rahman Chowdhury said the Local Government, Health, Education and Family Planning Departments, Department of Public Health and Engineering, Upazila and Union Parishads and different NGOs are assisting in implementing the program.

“Initially, the program will be implemented by establishing adolescence education and services corners at 60 secondary level educational institutions in 60 unions of six upazilas in Nilphamari,” he said.

“There are a total of 460 secondary level schools, madrasas and technical institutions in the district and all of them will be brought under the program gradually,” Chowdhury added.
