Prosecution wants maximum punishment for Holey Artisan attack case
accused

DHAKA, Nov 07, 2019 (BSS) – The prosecution in the case lodged over
horrific militant attack at the capital’s Holey Artisan Bakery in 2016, today
concluded their arguments in the trial, pleading for maximum punishment of
the accused.

State counsel Golam Sarwar Zakir concluded his arguments today, pleading
for maximum punishment for the eight accused in the case. Defence counsels
after that started placing their arguments but failed to conclude.

Judge Md Mujibur Rahman of Dhaka Anti-terrorism Special Tribunal then
adjourned the hearing till November 13.

Earlier on October 27, testimonies of the prosecution witnesses came to
an end, as the special tribunal examined 113 out of total 211 witnesses.

Militants killed 20 innocent people, most of them foreigners, in the
grisly attack carried out at the upscale cafe on July 1, 2016.

Two police officials valiantly laid down their lives while trying to
save people there. Later, five militants were killed in a commando operation.

Police filed the case under the anti-terror act with Gulshan Police
Station. The trial initiated on November 26, 2018 by framing charges against
the eight accused- Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, Rakibul Hasan Regan,
Rashedul Islam alias Rash, Sohel Mahfuz, Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan,
Hadisur Rahman Sagar, Shariful Islam and Mamunur Rashid.
