Govt ensures nutrition of mother and child : Indira

DHAKA, Nov 06, 2019 (BSS) – As early childhood is considered as the most important period in a child’s life, the base of child’s development and education gets laid during this time. This was stated by State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira while addressing as the chief guest the ‘National Conference 2019’, arranged by the Bangladesh Early Childhood Development Network (BEN) in Spectra Convention Centre today.

The state minister said the government has launched mother and child support programs across the country to ensure maternal and child nutrition.

Chairman of Bangladesh ECD Network Dr. Monjur Ahmed presided over the conference while Dr. Ihsanur Rahman presented a keynote paper on the topic.

Indira said the government has included the issue of child welfare in all development goals and long-term plans.

Fifteen ministries are implementing programmes involving a Taka 80 thousand crore for the development of children. Various laws and policies have been made for the development and protection of the child, she said adding that the child day care centre law is under process.

The state minster also said, BEN tackles the challenges of early development of children in Bangladesh and in collaboration with local and international organizations, the organisation can play an important role for improving the quality of healthcare for mothers and children .

Rasheda K Chowdhury, Executive Director of Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) and Deputy Country Representative of UNICEF Bangladesh Veera Mendonca also spoke at the conference.
