Judicial commission to be constituted to unmask masterminds of coups: Murad

DHAKA, Nov 5, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan today said a process continues to form a judicial commission to unmask the masterminds behind the coups took place in army after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.

“A parliamentary committee and cabinet in their meetings discussed how many coups took place in army during the reign of Ziaur Rahman, how many people were killed in these coups and how the masterminds of the coups could be brought to justice,” he told a discussion at Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

Speaking as the chief quest, Murad said about 500 people were hung in army from 1975 to 1977.

He said an unknown history will be revealed before the countrymen by forming the judicial commission.

There is no information how many coups took place in army during the reign of Ziaur Rahman and how many people, including civilians, were killed in these coups, the state minister said.

But, he said, there should be lists of coups and the people who were killed in the coups.

Chaired by Sampriti Bangladesh convener Pijush Bandyopadhyay, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Maj. Gen. (retd) Md Ali Sikder, lawmaker and former president of Jatiya Press Club Shafiqur Rahman, former vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Kamrul Hasan Khan, former lawmaker Mehejabin Khaled, Lt. Col. (retd) Abu Osman Chowdhury and Sampriti Bangladesh joint secretary Nasir Uddin Ahmed.
